It's Worse Than I Thought

The results didn't come in until 6:30PM if you can imagine. Repeated phone calls and finally my fax machine hummed to life and delivered the news.

HCG: 2.48iu

Q: Can a beta be any lower?

A: Yes. My first IVF beta was 2.0.

(sobs)

I will do my second beta on Friday, the day I was schedule for my 1st beta, but impatient me got the better of me. Hell, it might double to 5, but AS IF that would mean anything.

However, I did see on Liana's blog that FETs with a beta of 5 are considered positive.

Truth or fiction?

Millie, I am counting on you for some sage-like advice at this point.

Aw hell. I still hold out hope (resolute hopeful, that's me). I'm very interested in hearing more about Dr. CC's study. I've always been intrigued with intralipids.

Ugh, I'm so sorry Linda. My understanding is taht a beta of five is a positive test (below that it is not), but that if that is the beta on day 14 it would not have a good prognosis. The lowest beta on day 14 that I have heard turning out ok is brooklyn girl's pregnancy. Doesn't mean it's impossible with a beta of five, but realistically I think it's unlikely.

I am very sorry for all this shittiness.

That sucks. I'm sorry.

I have no sage-like advice at this point except get another beta on Friday. And then get another one on Monday. And so forth.

Our REs in Cape Town do believe in positives as low as 5. He wasn't thrilled with my first beta but kept telling me doubling was more important.

Check out www.betabase.info and you can see there are cases of successful outcomes with incredibly low betas (like 3 on day 14).

Whatever ends up happening, it sucks to have all this stress. I say time for shopping and perhaps a little salsa dancing.

Millie,

I knew I could count on you to be the voice of sanity.

You had mentioned to me that FETs are notiously slow to implant and have typically low betas.

I guess there is still hope then.

I'll hang in there and hope for the best.

Oh man, I'm sorry you didn't get better news. I'll be checking on you tomorrow.
