post a commentHa, ha, that's so awesome, Linda. You're my hero--I totally wish I could do my own LIT. Going to Nogales is a huge freaking pain in the you-know-where.
I'm looking forwrd to hearing what Dr. Italian says at your WTF appt, and whether he acknowledges that this was probably an immune attack. I know he's not a proponent of LIT but I'm a little surprised he didn't push you to do intralipids on your last cycle knowing your immune history. It's his job to remember these things, even if you don't, you know?
Take care,
Julie
Hi Julie,
Those Nogales trips bite! OMG. I felt so depressed being there. Like there I was traveling to the ends of the earth, a Mexican bordertown, to try to get pregnant. It seemed crazy at the time. It makes me crazy that we can't get this treatment here in the states.
I'm so glad I don't have to do that anymore. I've got all of my supplies ordered save for a new centrifuge and gloves, the latter of which I can get at the pharmacy. It's sorta surreal that I have resorted to doing this one my own, but there just comes a point (for me) when I've had enough. The scariest part is, of course, keeping "sterile". I had hoped to rent "lab space" in the city (I hear this is a new thing, sorta like renting kitchen space). There are such places in the SF Bay Area but I haven't discovered any on the east coast YET. Maybe I should open one? Hehehehe!
Dr. Italian did have me do one intralipid infusion at the beginning of stims. I think that for patients like myself it's just not enough. There aren't enough studies to show that intralipids work and that they work for patients over 45. Dr. B's office says that it's ineffective for patients over 40...Dr. Italian's office differs on this point but they haven't published anything to counter Dr. B's claims. So it's all a gray area. I wish I could afford IVIg, but at $2500 + infusion fees per treatment, I just can't go there. LIT is a great substitute for IVIg...so I should get lots of benefit of doing it. I just don't know the DQ-a of my partner or of my donor. That is unsettling. I sorta think I should get a few different people who are fully tested for STDs and do a "pooled" LIT run? But somehow that feels riskier to me than doing my own LIT. Ya know?
OMG I feel like an uneducated hick! You are so amazing, I really admire your taking control of the situation. I think after a few failures the docs (at least mine) don't really want to "figure it out", they just want you gone. Really, my doc was very kind but he sort of dismissed my "google research"; but what the hell else am I supposed to do?! Grrrr.
Anyway, I think you should totally open your own "lab for rent" and use the proceeds to fund your triplets education.
